We need high quality officers to deal with a council that has inherited a hugely difficult situation.

Furthermore we have now completed a staffing restructure that has saved £34 million.

Pay grades for all roles are in line with other councils and follow nationally agreed pay negotiations and job evaluations. 3/4

The map is really misleading as it compares tiny District Councils & big Unitary Councils. It ignores the remaining County Councils. It even admits this in the small print.

Since 2023 Somerset Council has saved £4.1 million on senior salaries by reducing from 54 to 21 permanent senior staff today.
