Love your programmes and broadcasts. I wanted to share this snippet from The History of the London Hospital Edward Morris published 1910. One of the hospitals early legacies, directly from slavery.

Memories of Canon Scott, Chaplain from the 1860's, referring to the early resistance to the use of anaesthesia. Maybe a later misquoted as a 'good healthy scream'?

Source for the role of Boxboys? Worth noting that Fred Wheadon - founder member of the CODP and who was still teaching anaesthesia when in trained 1978-1980 was originally a Box Boy in the 1930s

History of the London Hospital by Edward Morris. Written in 1909 and published in 1910. (references to Blizard refer to Wm. Blizard Surgeon at the London from 1780 for 53 years)

Reading Morris' 1910 book on the history of the London Hospital, as it's one source for our CODP & #ODP history. This passage reminded me of my colleague Kathy Nabbie - always a name, never a procedure.

Spooky, I was at Ironbridge over the weekend 🤔

First all iron bridge in the world, 1779. Coalbrookdale, birthplace of the industrial revolution.

Fascinating place to visit, steeped in history and a world heritage site.

Tracked this down and looking forward to reading it. This is the source for some of material used by Dr Pope in the 1960s, quoted in our College History. Already noted a small error - the terrible bell did 'clank' not 'clang'

The new CODP members badge carries forward our traditions and history. Both feature our founding year, 80 years ago in 1945, along with our latin moto translating as 'I serve the cause of humanity'.

But what is the symbol in the centre of the date?

Rather nice Belgian beer from my boys. But 750mls at 11% means I'm in front of the telly for the evening.

Been researching the codp.org.uk regalia of office. Both silver, Birmingham hallmarks. President's 1969, Chairman's - now obsolete -1962.
Honoured to have worn the latter for 9 years, the former for 15.
We've come a long way in that time. #ODPs support your College
