Wrote this for Trans Day of Visibility. We exist. We are glorious and mundane. We are vibrantly alive even in silence.
“Trans Day of Visibility” Today, all the Dragons like me watched the red sun rise and spill its light through our windows like pink champagne, like medicine, like blood. Today, it looked like blood more than usual. Today, we all yawned and roared and spread our terrible wings. And looked at clothes. And messaged our friends. And flirted with each other. And laughed at stupid jokes. And went to work. And fixed our cars. And drew pictures. And cried about Palestine. And cried about home. And cried about each other. “Trans Day of Visibility” And made sandwiches. And wrote poems. And watched movies. And played video games. And took pictures in the mirror. And asked for money for groceries. And gave each other money for groceries. And blocked people. And ignored phone calls. And read books. And checked in on each other. And posted online. And practiced our woodworking. And drove across the country. And made plans to see each other. And kept our ears open for the sounds of suits of armor, for loud marches. And we wondered in whispers which of our day’s labors would be called a fire this time.

Figured I’d update my profile picture since I’m feebly dedicating myself to posting on here more frequently.

On her face is a slight smile she hopes conveys an emotion somewhere between “Mommy’s home!” and “I’m still not sure if this outfit is safe for work, but I wore it to a Zoom meeting with my boss today and it went well so here’s hoping!” She is also leaning on the counter to indicate a friendly and approachable demeanor.

Excerpt from a blog post: As a trans woman I know a lot about indignity. My breasts ache. My stubble bickers with me. My newly long hair seems allergic to any kind of containment. My body rarely cooperates with me during sex. So much of me has changed. And yet, with each dose of hormones I feel closer to God. I feel a greater empathy for those like me. I feel the stones of my soft pink tomb rolled away. She is risen.
