With today’s news that fraud in our state was even worse than previously feared one truth is impossible to ignore: it’s hard to govern in the public interest when you owe favors to special interest groups.

Mike Newcome is refusing special interest money in his run for Governor.

The Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision opened the door for ultra-wealthy donors to spend unlimited money in our elections.

Citizens United was a bad decision, but Congress has the power to do something about it. Instead, it has never held a vote on a constitutional amendment to overturn it.

What’s frustrating for those of us who aren’t stuck in a partisan fever dream is that this won’t be called by members of his own party. When tribal loyalty shields clearly unacceptable behavior, our politics lose their moral grounding while setting a terrible example for our kids.

This is the heart of Mike Newcome's leadership.
He and his wife Marie opened their home to three incredible young people from Ukraine and their courage helped inspire Mike to run for Governor.
Two of them are back in Ukraine now and supporting Mike's run while dealing with the challenges of war.

Politicians spend more time chasing donations than solving problems. And when you think money is the most important thing, you're more likely to compromise your morals - because big donors usually expect to have a say in how you vote.

Workers get layoffs. Executives get leather seats on the jet.
The game is rigged because politicians trade laws for campaign checks.

If this government shutdown is just going to be a partisan PR battle between Democrats and Republicans with no regard for the people being hurt by it — then Democrats should just say they’ll vote to reopen the government in exchange for the full Epstein files being released.

Yesterday we honored workers. Today, too many return to jobs that barely cover family needs.
Politicians have been too cowardly to stand up to big donors. Forward Independence candidates will support overturning Citizens United to end the stranglehold of money on our democracy.

Forward Independence is working to build political influence but we aren’t cocncerned with political power.

If there is a candidate from a different party who has courage, good ideas, and is willing to work with anyone to get things done - we will support them.

Partisan redistricting allows those in power to choose their voters rather than the voters choosing who to put into power. It leads to even fewer competitive races, lower voter turnout, and more extreme candidates on both sides.

Pope Leo to World Leaders: Stop Lying and Obey Your Oath
Trump averages 21 lies a day. Vance brags about inventing stories. Pope Leo calls it what it is: a betrayal of public trust.

The Constitution is clear: only Congress has the power to declare war. If the United States is heading toward another armed conflict the American people deserve a full debate and a vote by their elected representatives. Anything less is a betrayal of our democracy.

It’s a noble act to step up and serve your community through public office. We are heartbroken by these targeted attacks.

This grotesque assassination undermines the foundation of a civil society and this guy who came in the middle of the night to destroy a family is a coward.

A grotesque piece of legislation, and with what it adds to the debt, it asks even more from those poor people.

The bill is so cartoonishly bad and fiscally irresponsible it’s hard to believe it wasn’t written by a foreign country trying to bankrupt us and incite a revolution.
Megabill would cost poorest households $1,600 a year, boost richest by $12K, according to Congress’ nonpartisan scorekeeper.
