The author’s original concern seemed to be more about the possibility of accidentally disassembling important functions through plain lack of knowledge. The difference from the current “administration” is that the damage here is not accidental. It is literally the purpose.

Six months later they move on, and the people that have been plugging away making sure that everything is still functional, are still there and still doing what they need to do.

At the time I read it, it struck me how much it was like the corporate culture in this country. The people that are on the management track come in with their “new vision” , cut departments, etc., but they don’t have anything other than a surface level understanding of how anything actually works.

That is where stability comes from, not from the revolving door of people looking to put their own personal stamp on things.

They are career professionals; experts engineers, economists, scientists. They keep everything actually running day to day while the visible people (the politicians, in this case) come and go.
