I’ll second that, avoid the Touch Bar Macs and the generation before that is pretty serviceable.

I have a 2010 Mac Mini w/8GB that I installed an SSD in, and since macOS isn't supported, I'm running Ubuntu on it, and it's pretty usable. There's not much it can't do... Mind you, it's not my primary system but I've played around coding on it with vscode and it works.

They’re just trying to rile people up. All the Mac’s I’ve had have lasted far beyond expectations. Work refreshes on a 3 year cycle but my personal one is a 2015 and it’s been fine. Been looking for an excuse but can’t find one. Have replaced the battery but that’s a long run for a lithium-ion.
