Ten years ago the whole of Sierra Leone was holding its breath, hoping that the Ebola was over. There had been no confirmed cases for weeks and the country was nearing the point where it could be declared Ebola free. Then in a small village in the Northern Provence of Bombali a young man died.

Try to research the continuing impact of the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone isn't getting easier. So much knowledge has disappeared in the past few weeks.

Ten years ago the US poured millions of dollars into containing the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Humanitarian sentiment apart the real motivation was to protect the US population from an outbreak at home. Nothing has changed. Now the early warning system is being defunded.
