American actress Jennifer Ehle was born #OnThisDay in 1969. She wore this Dinah Collin designed cinnamon brown spencer and bonnet (displayed here with a printed cream dress) as Elizabeth Bennet in the 1995 BBC miniseries Pride and Prejudice. Cosprop Ltd collection. #TV #costume #fashionhistory

We interrupt our Pride & Prejudice Advent Calendar #BTPPAdventCalendar coverage to remind you that if you like these threads, and Regency fashion, you might like the books over at @austendress.bsky.social. They taught us everything we know. There's a third one coming next year!

It's back!: THE BILL AND TED TEST ADVENT CALENDAR.
One post a day on the BBC 1995 Pride and Prejudice until 25th December.

The fine print: Going through from start to finish; episodes in order so no skipping ahead to Mr Wet Shirt 1812, thank you. Four posts per episode.

We worked it out. Scuse any ensuing spamming as we transfer over.
Do we know how to transfer all the tweets from the Ex-Bird Cage and give them life here? Sorta kinda maybe.

Are we working on it? Time will tell.

But at least we finally can back into the old account which wasn't happening for quite some time because the codes got lost.

We have been quiet.
We have had *a year*.

But! We have also written another book full of Regency goodness, another prop for an already very high horse from which to look loftily upon screen productions and Test them. Or something.

Have a good one, costuming compadres!

OMG! Can you imagine if expert historians, like, took to Twitter to present their knowledge in alternative forms that were also fun and engaging and tapped into things people already enjoy??? Madness!!

It's time for another of those tweets where we promise really truly that there will be more content at some point, and then probably more months' silence. Let's find out!!

We had nothing to do with this, honest:

'There’s not even an attempt to be accurate here – [the] costumes only look like Regency dress if you’d somehow been led to believe that the pages of this month’s Tatler magazine had been shot out of a time machine.

Another month; another memo going round Bill and Ted Towers that truly, this will be the one that we resume posting. And yet, we don't. #twitterennui.

IF IT HURTS THAT MUCH IT IS NOT AN 'HISTORICALLY ACCURATE' REGENCY CORSET.

Who is making and fitting these?

Just so's you know, we're not going to do The Courtship because it's not set in the past.

People are allowed to critique Bridgerton. If you like something, it doesn't mean no one can have conversations about it. Having people of colour in it (yay!) doesn't mean it's uncritiqueable either. ALL cultural productions are up for discussion. It's part of what makes culture

Not posting, waving.

Have we posted anything new for a long time? No.

Do we plan to? Aw, yeah, probs.

Will it be this month? Almost certainly not.

But you're still all lovely, so 👋

Do you know what today is? The 30th November.

This means tomorrow is the 1st December. Because we put so much work into it, and are lazy, it's the day we're going to shamelessly rest on our laurels and start retweeting the......

Bill and Ted Test but make it the history of fashion on Barbies. Read up and down; you'll love it.

A dream cast of Pride & Prejudice based on previous adaptations, by a partial, prejudiced (ha!) and knowledgeable historian

Lizzy - Gemma Arterton, Lost in Austen
Darcy - Laurence Olivier, 1940 (DO NOT @ US!!)
Jane - Rosamund Pike, 2005
Mrs Bennet - Alex Kingston, Lost in Austen

Have we already mentioned we do have nascent plans for a second account in this vein, looking at a different period, when and if we can be bothered?

We've probably said it once before but it bears repeating now *aaah ah ah ah aaa-aah*

Retweeting that last Holm Napoleon has reminded us we haven't tested his second (and obviously best) portrayal of the emperor: Time Bandits.
