Evidently they didn't put up a sign in English that said 'we surrender'. Hence they were eliminated.

The backup/friction braking system (not the primary regenerative one) is still hydraulic, so every few years one should still change out the fluid because it's hygroscopic. But yes, there is a significant difference in maintenance schedules.
