I agree that it is insensitive to deliberate consideration to some degree, but I think that it does tip if you account for all costs and all benefits.

Reconsidering views that form your identity is expensive, so people normally don’t bother.

I’m not sure that I agree with this.

I think that both curation and editing can be used to lie and tell the truth.

I think that lying is more about the intent to misrepresent than any particular tool or process being used.
