So now we are in a slow-moving coup by an authoritarian and I keep wondering if and when the inverse of the Berlin Wall falling will happen, whatever that will be.

Even though some former Soviet republics had already declared independence before it fell, and some others declared years after, it was the speed at which the Berlin Wall fell that became the defining moment for victory of freedom and democracy over authoritarianism.
