Also, check with your utility company for incentives to install battery storage systems. Puget Sound Energy has decent incentives if you allow them to pull from your batteries to the grid during peak times and recharge during off-peak. For low income folks, there are even more incentives.

A lot of the LFP batteries used in these power stations come from China. With the risk of tariffs coming into effect in the future, these low prices may no longer be available a year or two from now. And while the tax credits are supposed to be available for years, that too may get repealed.

Right now, there are tax credits for 30% of your home energy backup spend for solar and battery storage that is at least 3kWh. Next time you file taxes, you'll get almost a third of this money back.

If you're wealthy or even just able to afford things comfortably, consider a full home backup solution with automatic failover. You may need to get electrical work done, but todays systems really simplify things.

If you're budget constrained but have decent credit, make use of the Amazon Prime Chase credit card. You can do 0% interest over 12 monthly payments for purchases over $250. This also works for any online shop that supports Amazon Pay, not just purchases on Amazon itself.

Focus on enough capacity to power medical devices & a fridge first. Then to cover phones/laptops/wifi. Don't be deterred by your fridge saying 400W peak draw. Even just a 1kWh battery capacity can run a fridge for almost a day if you don't open it. Some 2kWh units on sale under $600 right now.

Dude, it was totally obnoxious on Twitter now. Just the narcissistic audacity to basically give himself a megaphone while drowning out the rest of the platform is crazy.

No. We lost it Tuesday at 4pm. Likely won't get it back for a few more days.

Yeah, it's lucky that it wasn't raining all that much in Issaquah. Mostly just heavy winds. It was on a slope in the roof, so that was worrisome, but the frame and flashing of the window remained and kept anything from sliding in. Used a shower curtain with folds to 4 mixing bowls to catch water.

Yup, things worked out in the end.

Thanks for checking in and helping me get so much advice sent my way. It really helped out.

All the other windows held up in the end. Fortunately, there wasn't much rain last night and the pseudo-tarp I rigged using shower curtains caught everything. We also lost cell service at some point last night. But the Safeway here is open with shelf stable items and has WiFi

Unfortunately not. I own the place. It's not even 25 years old and I've already had to replace the roof, water heater, and most appliances.

Normally a gas furnace with forced air, but the furnace stopped working a while back and I have it shut off heat. We've lost power too, but we have these two natural gas fireplaces as well.

I closed blinds and curtains over them and setup some softer stuff that can hopefully brace them as they fall.

Speaking of air pressure, I've got two gas fireplaces burning right now. Should I shut those off or are they safe to leave on?

Nope, it's like 20 ft up. I have nothing that'll let me get up that high.
November 20, 2024 at 6:03 AM
Yeah, maybe a makeshift ramp of some kind may be a good idea. It's a bit tricky because the skylight is in a cutout going through the attic, so it's like 20 ft up and not easy to reach.

Not sure if my windows in the master bedroom, family room, or kitchen will hold up. Another skylight window also looks shaky. For now, I laid down towels and bowls. #help #wind #storm #cyclone #seattle #weather #home
