Coincidentally came across this line in Killers of the Flower Moon describing William Hale that sounds eerily similar to the manifest destiny rhetoric in Trumps speech last night
Excerpt from trump state of the union closing remarks with highlighted portion “Our ancestors crossed a vast ocean, strode into the unknown wilderness, and carved their fortunes from the rock and soil of a perilous and very dangerous frontier.” Followed by more manifest destiny bullshit Page from Killers of the Flower Moon with psychological evaluation of WK Hale while in prison for murder of Osage native Americans. Notable passage “Hale portrayed himself as an American pioneer who had helped forge a nation out of the raw wilderness. The evaluator observed, “His poor judgement is further evidenced by his continued denial of his obvious guilt. His affect is not suitable…He has put behind him any feeling of shame or repentance he may have had.”
