Thats the thing about cooking is when people say that no one really asks about the ingredients or medium by which youre cooking they are just concerned with the fact that you are actually just cooking. What matters is that you are cooking something and thats i guess something to be proud over

It makes for interesting and different games, and the burn player will have to be really careful not to waste their initial gambits because if they fail to kill, there’s very remote opportunities to recoup the card advantage loss

In 2005 Yugioh (Goat Format) there’s a Burn deck thats disliked by a lot of new players until they learn a way to deal with it is to be wasteful with your own cards because very often the deck lands damage on you relative to how many cards you have. So less cards = lower yields for burn cards.

Huge disclaimer I am going by my experience in other tcgs so i have like literally nothing to say about the actual decktype itself as it appears in one piece.

Which ultimately boils down to zero sum games anyway a lot of time. Limit your opponents options/expand your own. Alternate avenues of victory just does so in a way that can feel highly uninteractive. But limiting interaction is almost always the goal in most tcgs I’ve played.

So less players play it despite it being a valid expression of mechanics. Again I can understand how bad it must feel to be prepared to play a game by an expected exchange and have to engage with a game in a way you don’t think is fun (playing around alt wins). This is competitive gaming, however.

Discourse becomes frustrating because this has a place in balancing a metagame to discourage certain lines of play and enrich the game as a whole to players who vibe with mechanics, but often stigmatizing a non-traditional playstyle for doing what it’s supposed to as “anti skill” or “anti fun”
