Haven't posted in awhile!
So I decided to do the Next Fest in February to give me more time to polish my demo (and game). Aiming to release right after that Next Fest by the end of Feb. Been working on Increminer a ton. It finally has more than one level! Behold the Oasis

Still working on Increminer. Lately it's been boring stuff that's not fun to look at.

But behold! The camp has gone from mockup to a version I'm really happy with! Complete with parallax, particles, shadows and lots of grass

Made a little dialog system for Increminer! Mainly just for interacting with NPCs and introducing the game when you start a new file. You know, just video game stuff.

New stats shop for #screenshotsaturday!

Made a big change for how progression works. All digging gives money which you use here to upgrade stats. Mining ore however grants you XP which awards talent points to spend into the talent tree when leveling.

New upgrade - energy boost!

Gives you a random chance to double your swings per second for a short time. Great for burst damage.
Other than that, lots of progress that's not as fun to look at. Controller support, bug fixing, marketing stuff, etc.

The demo will be released on or before October 13th for the upcoming Steam Next Fest!

Next Fest Sprint Day 21 - Bombs

Can't have a mining game without explosives. Just wouldn't make sense. Bombs will be an upgrade you can unlock and then purchase further upgrades for. Needs a bit more polish but I like it

Next Fest Sprint Day 19 - Controllers

Migrated to the new Unity input system and now fully support controllers (and therefore the Steam Deck). Something about playing your game on something other than a desktop feels amazing for some reason

Next Fest Sprint Day 17

Started upgrading the look of the camp (far from done, I just can't stare at PyxelEdit anymore). Focused on sprites for the museum, tent, and shop if that wasn't obvious. I'll do another pass soon but this is a huge improvement

Next Fest Sprint Day 16

Took a pass at trying to balance everything in the Landfill level (not even close to being satisfied with it). Added another upgrade, added more info to the upgrade menu. Tons of refactoring, bug fixing, etc.

Next Fest Sprint Day 15 - New player animations

Animated our new little guy from the title screen. I also added sfx for everything he does (which you can't hear) as well as fixed several bugs. Tomorrow I'm adding more upgrades and doing my first big balance pass

Next Fest Sprint Day 13 - The Camp

Implemented the camp which is essentially the game's hub world. From here you can go to the shop for upgrades, the museum to see what artifacts you've found, or start new runs. Also a little bit of polish here and there, yadda yadda

Next Fest Sprint Day 12

Gave bedrock a health bar and added a little cutscene that plays when you first reach a new level. Is the bedrock jitter fucked up? Yes. But otherwise I love it. Honestly feeling great about this demo/game and I hope everyone gets to enjoy it

Next Fest Sprint Day 11 - Look at those upgrades go!

The upgrade menu shows more info. Also tuned damage/health values for stuff. Spent time making menus navigable with controller. Serialized level progress into player saves. As always, little improvements here and there as well

Next Fest Sprint Day 10
Parallax scrolling in backgrounds, improved art, made the map generate more stuff with depth, added text showing what you've mined and how much it's worth (and its rarity). Lots of little tweaks here and there. Almost feels like a real video game

Well I came down with a cold last night and got like 3 hours of sleep, so huge shout out to illness.

Anyway, I got the landfill (first level) looking WAY better than it was before. I'm sweating and I don't want to use my computer anymore. God damn cold

Next Fest Sprint Day 8

The shop gets a fat upgrade. Changed it from being a boring list to a talent tree. Complete with dependencies and tooltip window. I want it to show a bit more info (prices, missing dependencies, etc) but on the bright side it can be moved around and zoomed.

Next Fest Sprint Day 7 - Perlin Noise

Added more ore types, tweaked some color palettes, and fixed a shit load of bugs in the map. Then I added some noise to the map generation to break things up a bit. If you squint you can see there's coal too (okay the colors could be better)

Purchasable upgrades are in the shop! And thanks to yesterday you KNOW that shit is saved. That said, I'm not in love with the look. This is likely going to be more in the style of an upgrade tree. Maybe tomorrow
