You’re an idiot. Posting LSF out of context clips shows the limits of your intelligence and critical thinking skills.

Anyway, TLDR - great Superman movie with the 3 main actors all being amazing but being a hardcore comic nerd I felt pulled away from the movie at times. Lois Lane remains the best though no matter what.

We then get 7 powered people (good and bad), with only one of them a metahuman. I also couldn’t figure out why Hawkgirl kept screaming like a hawk. That was super confusing.

My nerdiest, push up my glasses, but actually points about the film which is provided as humor - the movie starts by introducing the concept of methumans as being the core of the DC Universe and that these metahumans are changing the world.

So, while the heart of the movie and the moral center carried strong through it, I kept feeling pulled away from it by the stark contrasts in the surface level themes and characters. Like I said, a very particular critique, limited to a small subset of people I think.

The reason I drop all these references is that these are all very distinct books with very distinct styles, and for someone who has read all of these I found it very distracting and hard to reconcile these different themes which left me with that disconnected feeling.

He pulls a lot from Justice League International, a heavy comedy book from the 90s, which is once again very thematically different from anything. The stuff in Smallville carries a Superman For All Seasons vibe, and Jimmy Olsen comes off as the Jimmy from Matt Fractions’ Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen.

But that is a very distinct book fueled by Grant Morrison’s imagination. It is one of my favorite books of all time, but it is hard to merge that with other Superman stories.

James Gunn pulls from a lot of different Superman/DC books from different times as well as books that have drastically different themes. All Star Superman feels like his main point of reference, and Gunn has mentioned it numerous times.

Now, here is my negative. I don’t think this really applies to many people out there so feel free to stop here. I felt super disconnected from the overall narrative and I was struggling to figure out why and I think I figured it out.

Also, the message of the movie is amazing and what Superman is about. I touch on that a bit in my comment above about the interview but the moral compass of this movie is the heart of Superman.

He takes keys from both the comics as well as two of the best Lex Luthors to have done it before - Gene Hackman and Micheal Rosenbaum. You understand why he is doing what he is doing and why he hates Superman.

The interaction between her and Clark when she is interviewing him as Superman is probably my favorite part of the movie as it gets to the heart of Superman. And finally Nicholas Hoult is an amazing Lex Luthor.

David Corenswet is Superman. He embodies the character to a T. I would have loved to get more time with him as Clark but that is a minor squabble. Rachel Brosnahan is pitch perfect as Lois Lane and has some of my favorite parts of the movie.
