From an all-new studio comes The Last Ark Mat Van Rhoon, who joined the Tex Murphy crew in 2013 as one of the creative forces behind Tesla Effect, announced today that he has finally gone out on his own and opened a new game studio, Terabbit Studios. Along with the official announcement, the studio has announced a new game based on an entirely new IP. The new game, The Last Ark, is a narrative thriller that will deliver a new twist on consequential, choice-driven narrative gameplay. So far the game features voice and acting talent from popular franchises like: Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Persona 3 Reload, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, System Shock, GhostRunner II, The 7th Guest VR, and our very own Tex Murphy series! From the studio’s website:In the not-too-distant future, a rogue star has flown through our solar system. Over the past few years, a small team consisting of Mat Van Rhoon, Doug Vandegrift, Adrian Carr, and Aaron Conners had been revamping and remastering The Pandora Directive’s source content for a planned remaster.It’s been a very involved and painstaking process over the past few years, and you can read up on it on Big Finish Games’ website here: https://bigfinishgames.com/news/ as well as check out all the progress videos Mat has posted to the Big Finish Games YouTube (playlist).Some of you may be wondering about the status of that project, and this response comes from the team who has thus far dedicated their spare hours to get the project to where it is today…Until now, the team had been dedicated to remastering the full motion video from the original tapes (into 4K), cutting all-new edits of the cinematic sequences, redesigning the game environments, remastering the sound and music, and modernizing the game design. For the most part, those tasks have now been conquered, and the logical next step would be to get the band back together again to march the project towards the finish line. However, that will require more than a part-time, passion project level of dedication. The entire team will need to be back on board 100%. Anything else would disrespect both the project’s contributors and critical stakeholders. Not everybody is available or willing to commit to this right now. However, many of us who still want to complete this project will remain on standby until the entire team is ready to engage and support it together.
