#31daysofhorror Day 4:

The Vourdalak invokes early Guillermo del Toro and Jean Rollin with its one-two punch of fantasy and horror. A creeping atmosphere of dread as a family is torn apart from the inside out by its patriarchal servitude. Adrien Beau‘s debut is incredibly funny too.

#31daysofhorror Day 3:

William Peter Blatty’s Exorcist III is one of those sequels that might just be better than the original (at least, in this humble writer’s opinion.) An unnerving police procedural that quietly unwinds the subtly and goes for the jugular in its bonkers final act.

#31daysofhorror Day 2:

A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge is a sweaty queer fever dream. It doesn't always work, but has some memorable nightmare sequences that betray the established rules of its predecessor (complimentary.) Freddy has never looked creepier.

#31daysofhorror Day 1:

Kizumonogatari Part 1: Iron-Blooded is an unabashedly horny, hyper kinetic, supernatural horror, coming-of-age story. Its blend of 2D animation and CG gives it a modern gothic vibe that pair quite nicely.

It’s always surreal to watch an anime film in a theater with a large crowd. People were hooting and hollering throughout. They even clapped after a major fight scene. The film itself was fine. The arc isn’t really built for the movie format and it felt like I was binging a handful of episodes.

Mail day! It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done one of these, but I feel it was warranted since everything I ordered came in all at the same time. Thanks to @brotherbelial.bsky.social for the quick delivery of everything; minus The Beyond which is thanks to @grindhousefilm.bsky.social.

I feel your pain lol. I managed to nab the Japanese Blu-ray of Her Blue Sky for $20 and this thing is having the damnedest time finding it’s way to me.

Decided on a whim to pull out my old tape loops, only to discover one of them still works. Seems like a good excuse to probably make some more.

Sheryl Lee’s performance in Fire Walk with Me is hauntingly beautiful. Her final shot will conjure itself into your dreams.

There was a 2008 Japanese Blu-ray release, but it wasn’t English friendly.
