Your options in combat are Attack, Move, and/or Item. Thus, decision-making in combat is guided by tactics. Do I engage the enemy or bait them to engage with me? Who is able to effectively choke a point? Your Techniques are what make you better (or just different) at these three main actions.

The main source of mechanical decision-making is instead in character creation and advancement, where every level, you can choose from a list of dozens of Techniques. You get to make those decisions outside of the session so that our friend Magey McTwentySpells doesn't hold up all the action.

The guiding philosophy of SPACESWORDS is to limit the players' number of different actions on their turn. You will not see a mage with 20 different spells trying to decide which one to cast.
