His time at the commune, the feeling of so many foreheads under his fingers, the way his flesh melted itself and became something new under Reveck’s careful hands. Viktor doesn't remember the walk between Silco’s office and their room, but when he finds himself before their bed he simply collapses into it, pulling the blankets around himself as if to cocoon his thoughts away from all the horrible things he’s done. Jayce will understand, he had told Reveck, but now as he lies in his bed trying desperately to hide from the horror of his own actions, Viktor is the one who doesn’t understand. He remembers himself as a kind man, as someone who wanted to change the world for the better, but he can’t remember why it mattered so much that he survived, why he had to become a monster. He should know, he thinks, should have some understanding of his own motivations, but all he remembers is the seeming inevitability of it all, as if in all timelines he never had a choice. Viktor pulls the blankets tighter, his right hand screaming distantly at the motion, and tries not to make a noise as his tears fall. The last thing he needs is for Silco to know how much he’s been shaken.

He should have known when he found Jayce in the kitchen, staring at a pan with two uncooked eggs, unable to remember how to light the stove. The yolks had stared at Viktor then, like the eyes of the automatons lining their walls. He should have realized when he first caught Jayce’s lips moving in a silent conversation, or when he noticed the way Jayce tilted his head to hear sounds that weren’t there, but he had been afraid, hadn’t wanted to shatter the fragile beginnings of whatever their life was becoming after nearly ending the world.

Bug Viktor, but make him a garden for WIP Wednesday

“You’re sprouting,” Jayce says one morning, pointing at Viktor’s arm. He stares at Jayce for just a moment, wondering if perhaps this is a new hallucination, something else he should worry about, but when Viktor looks down at himself he sees what Jayce means. Viktor is sprouting. Several tiny green shoots have grown up between the chitinous joints of his arm, pointed leaves stretching out towards the weak spring sunbeams coming through the window. There are more sprouting from his legs, his abdomen, even a vine sprouting from his other elbow that is trying to wrap around his arm. What the fuck?

I wrote this as an exercise to get myself out of writer’s block, but also wanted to give Bug Viktor some love. This one is a little angsty, but still full of love (mind the tags).

An AO3 title and summary for Ice on the Window by Bifty_75 Summary reads: He runs his fingernail through the frosted fractals, accumulating the cold under the crescent of nail he’s managed to grow since the last time Viktor cut them. There’s ice there too, the silence between them another tiny death. It’s not Viktor's fault that he can’t speak, that the mask that splits his face prevents it, or that Jayce is so terrified of the sound of Viktor’s projected voice in his head that the other man no longer tries to communicate. Jayce and Viktor no longer resemble the people they once were, but that doesn't stop Viktor for finding ways to care for Jayce, even when he isn't certain that's what he wants.

Jayce had noticed the carefully-maintained distance Viktor was keeping between the two of them in the weeks since his prison break. He had noticed the way Viktor never touched him in anything other than a perfunctory manner after that first night, and had felt so utterly alone because of it. Yet, he hadn’t been prepared for Viktor to give himself permission to close the distance. It’s as if a floodgate opened, as if some curse that had held them back for all the years they’d known each other had been broken by Jayce’s words in that cramped bathroom. Now, it feels as though Viktor is always touching him. Jayce wakes wrapped in his arms. Even if he’s sweaty and ill, Viktor is there, making some tiny noise at Jayce’s movement. Viktor is there when he eats, letting his fingers linger when he hands Jayce his plate. He’s there when Jayce wants to play cards or chess, and there when he wants to go into port. Viktor is there too when Jayce buys more of the shitty local liquor, when he fails miserably to be anything better than the drunk he is. Viktor is there to hold his shaking hands in the morning, and to help him into bed on the nights when he can’t feel his extremities. “I’m sorry,” Jayce whispers into his chest as they fall asleep. “I know,” Viktor tells him, “I’m sorry too.”

Follow-up to my other post: I really need more people to give Jayvik this style cane with the stand up base if you’re putting them in the country. This thing is great on uneven ground and I can stand it at the edge of my garden and boot scoot down the rows and its easier to get back up when I’m done

Sharing TWO snippets of this Isolation-inspired piece for #jayvikhurtcomfortweek because I have been cooking in secret for too long

(Also might be tipsy bc I got a new job today and went out to celebrate)
“I’m not fading,” he corrects, capturing a pawn of his own in a move he suspects will set him up for failure, “I’m remembering, they’re simply not my memories.” Jayce takes a sharp breath then, and Viktor feels a stab of something like vindication at the reaction. You see, the treacherous and terrible voice in his head tells him, even Jayce hates what you’ve become. He’ll leave and it will only be what you deserve. “Who do they belong to then?” Jayce asks, his gaze never leaving the chessboard. “The people I killed,” Viktor tells him, his voice almost even as he says it, only a hint of hesitation. Jayce looks him in the eyes, his gaze steady. There’s no pity there, and no hatred, only a sort of sadness Viktor can’t place. “ You have their memories?” He asks, still so gentle Viktor wants to shake him. “Not—,” Viktor hesitates, “not entirely, it’s more like flashes, as if I’m in a dream.” He realizes he’s backed himself into a corner, both on the chessboard and in the conversation. He had expected Jayce to recoil, or at least to hesitate when he admitted the truth, but his partner was never a man to wait at thresholds. “So that’s where you go, when you lose focus?” Jayce asks. “I don’t—,” Viktor sighs roughly, abandoning any attempt to play chess, “I don’t lose focus, I’m not in control of it, it simply happens to me.” He turns away at the admission, manually moving his bad leg so that he can more easily hide his face. Jayce lets him, turning his attention back to the chessboard as though nothing at all was said. “So, has the council decided what to do with me yet?” He asks, watching Jayce for his reaction. They’re playing cards this time, a game Jayce learned while traveling in Demacia with his mother. Viktor watches as his question hits the other man and his poker face breaks into something like a snarl for just a moment before he regains control. “Fuck the council,” he says simply, laying down two aces between them. Viktor is going to lose this game. “Is that a yes then?” He asks, placing his own pair of sixes down. “Vik—,” Jayce sighs, “it’s a not yet, not if they want the Hexgates restored, not if they want Hextech to exist at all.” He exchanges a card in his hand for one in the pile between them, then with a tired smile places the other two aces beside the first set. “I win,” Jayce says, and Viktor has never doubted anything more. “You’re holding Hextech over them,” he says, “for me?” He wants Jayce to confirm it, to be certain he understands. They’ve failed to say so many things in the years they’ve known each other that the desire for Jayce to say this thing out loud feels almost like a compulsion. “There is no Hextech,” Jayce says, picking up their cards and beginning to shuffle, “I destroyed our research, it’s all in my head now and I told the council I’ll blow my brains out if they execute you.” He doesn’t look at Viktor, his eyes on the controlled cascade of the cards in his hands.

He looks like an angel, or a God, but when Viktor meets his eyes he can see that they’re unfocused, that Jayce isn’t truly present. “Morning Lásko,” he says gently, but Jayce tilts his head away from him, listening to a sound from the room behind him that only he can hear. “Food first,” Viktor instructs, pulling back Jayce’s chair and motioning him into it. Jayce sits like a marionette whose strings have been roughly pulled, forgetting his own limp while his head swivels as though, if he gets the angle right he can hear whatever it is that calls to him from beyond the doorway. Viktor hooks his cane over the back of his own chair and sits heavily. He watches Jayce for a moment, noting the near-imperceptible movement of his lips as he holds a conversation under his breath with something that isn’t there. Viktor wants to shake him sometimes, to reach inside him and rearrange whatever it is that’s wrong in his brain. Some days he wishes he could scream hard enough to reach Jayce, could hold him long enough to squeeze this thing from him, but he’s learned the hard way that not all wounds can be healed. Instead, he lets his spoon clatter hard against his bowl as he dips it into the soup, catching Jayce’s attention with a start. “It’s time to eat, Jayce,” he tells the other man, projecting his voice in the hopes he will be louder than the ones inside his head. When Jayce raises his spoon and dips it into his own soup it feels like a victory, and the part of Viktor that will forever think of life as an endurance sport feels a spark of hope that he can outlast this. He knows it’s foolish, irresponsible even, but he doesn’t care.

This fic is on hiatus until November bc I wanted to work on other #jayvik stuff but the brainwork’s are feeling particular so now I’m making up reasons for Jayce to have no nipples
“You’ve had these for so long, yet they’re still sensitive,” Viktor notes, an experimental gleam in his eye as he lets his fingertips brush over the raised lines of scar tissue once again. “They scrambled my nerves when they did the surgery,” Jayce explains, squirming as Viktor runs one finger along the scar under his left pec, “so now the nerves that used to be part of my nipples are more— spread out I suppose?” “Hmm, I know the feeling,” Viktor murmurs, fingers continuing their tracery along his chest, “is that why you don’t have nipples? Because they would be cosmetic rather than sensory?” Jayce laughs at that, at the way Viktor’s voice has slipped from being sensual to scientific in the blink of an eye. “Actually, I don’t have nipples because I wanted to compete in the junior inventor awards,” he explains, his cheeks heating as he realizes how foolish it sounds. “It takes longer for the grafts to heal and I had surgery only a few weeks before the competition so I told them not to bother.” “So you sacrificed your nipples for science?” Viktor chuckles, “you never told me that.” “You never asked,” Jayce remarks, realizing too late it sounds like an accusation. “I wanted to,” Viktor replies wistfully, “I didn’t think it was my place.” “It was always your place,” Jayce whispers, capturing Viktor’s hand from his chest and kissing his fingers, metal knuckles skin-warned against his lips, “it will always be your place.”
