They‘re all music box tracks, meaning they didn’t need a whole orchestra to record them. It’s still possible that these are unreleased old tracks, but I think they’re new.

I lowkey have never heard of Rednote before now, but yeah that could well be a real alternative. However, it being owned by a Chinese company (and being less popular than TikTok) makes it more likely to get banned in the US for real.

Potentially, yes. Tho, it’s worth mentioning how TikTok now is much more popular than Twitter was, even before Elon musked all over the place, making jumping ship more difficult.

… and right now the other alternatives are IG Reels, which is owned by Facebook, and YouTube Shorts, in which Google is promoting the use of AI slop, making less usable. I’m not saying a mass TikTok exodus isn’t possible, but it’s less likely.

A Twitter mass-exodus was much easier to make happen in part because 1: the site was becoming borderline unusable and 2: bluesky was there as a clear lesser evil. With TikTok, the site may remain just as functional as it was before…

IIRC the direct said it could sometimes go off on its own, so imagine you just got dumped or got informed of a death and that mf goes “well that just happened“ or something.
