I know Bay area real estate is nuts, but what is going on with this house that was finished last year? Nothing was done to the house between May and now. Something doesn't make sense.

Elderly homeowners own valuable real estate, which makes them vulnerable to fines and liens if they don't comply with the rules, and this is unfair!

Prop 13 really made people think they should be protected from unexpected expenses in home ownership.
"I think you raise a legit concern- that elderly people hold a lot of very valuable assets in this area and are less able to fight back, so to speak, or comply possibly, making it likely that liens and fines would disproportionately fall on them. That is what got me involved. It felt unfair."

Despite that, it burned very hot, was able to jump over Wildcat easily, and almost immediately lit up two structures on Woodhaven, right alongside the edge of Tilden. It looks like, because of the limited amount of embers, the fire department was able to stop the fire right as it had jumped over Wildcat into Berkeley. Based on the behavior of other large wildfires such as the Paradise (Camp Fire) or the SoCal fires, it seems that the only likely reason the fire was well and quickly controlled is that the ignition point was so close to Wildcat Canyon that there were very few embers, comparatively, flying into Berkeley."
