REASON 136 for why you don’t handover people to other countries for detention of incarceration: They become poltical pawns for the receiving nation.

We are urging the court to require Wellpath provide a detailed list of changes it plans to make to improve its quality care, from efforts to increase staffing to enhanced escalation protocols. We've provided them a template to do so.

So together we're fighting in an unlikely venue: bankruptcy court. It's time that these courts intervene to ensure that prison healthcare providers like Wellpath don't abuse bankruptcy laws for their gross enrichment at the lethal expense of so many.

Wellpath then self-insured for the next $5 million per claim. Finally, for the last $7 million per claim, it used "captive insurance," which is merely a wholly owned subsidiary designed to provide insurance to its non-insured parent. In other words, more self-insurance.

Prison telecom Securus has hired a Chief Revenue Officer as negative press continues to mount about its exploitation of incarcerated people and their families. They're gearing up for tough conversations with investors as bankruptcy looms.

UPDATE: Like clockwork, GEO Group just announced it's making a $70 MILLION investment to expand it's electronic monitoring, detention operations, and deportation transportation services. It also announced several new executives, all of whom came from federal government positions, including ICE.

Transportation: GEO Group maintains a fleet of vans, buses, and planes to transport incarcerated and detained people across jurisdictions. Much of this fleet is stationed along the US-Mexico border. In 2021, GEO Group operated dozens of deportation flights at a rate of $179k per flight.

Now, of course crime there is crime in prisons and jails for many reasons. But research has shown that free call policies, which offer incarcerated people regular access to their loved ones, decrease violence and misconduct significantly, by as much as 32% and 27%, respectively.

WOW. Sheriff Hutson campaigned on making calls free at the Orleans Parish jail. Two yrs later, calls are still costly and jail staff have been found stealing money from incarcerated people. Making calls free is now just the bare minimum needed to pay restitution to the victims of this fraud.
