I can say, I have 2 System76 laptops and love them. I’ll never go with another company again.

I mean, you can also buy a laptop with Linux already installed without Windows from a company like System76. This in and of itself should, in my opinion, start the transformation of that preconceived notion of it’s only for old computers. I personally haven’t bought a Windows computer in years.

Just another curious question, why would it need to be annoying you enough? Part of the joy of Linux is making it the way you want and it not annoying you at all.

It’s just the nature of the game of life. Every tool can be used for either good or evil. A hammer builds houses, but also kills when used that way. We would never say that not everyone can buy a hammer.

My day job pays the bills, and to be honest it supports my ability to make the contributions that I do. As far as taking action against ill do-ers goes, it would no longer be open if we tried discriminating against who we thought were going to use our code for what we believe to be bad.

As an open source developer myself, I agree eating and paying my bills would be fantastic just from my projects and contributions. However, I don’t really do it for money. I do it because it makes me feel good. I feel like I’m helping the community, and in some ways, the greater society.

Because change is hard, users are locked into whatever that company has forced upon them. Where in the open source world, you there are choices and freedoms. Lock-in is not a thing. Freedom and collaboration is celebrated.

My reasoning is because the intentionally lock people into using it. Then, do not allow anyone to peer behind the curtain to see what they are taking from those end users, paid or unpaid. They also inject anything they want into the software, the users have no say.

The same goes for open source software. I believe that it’s not the software itself, or the permissive nature of its licensing. It’s a tool that humans can exploit for their own gain. Proprietary software and the companies that create it, in my opinion, are far worse.

I think the take is quite the opposite of the real world. Yes, tech companies have built software using open source. However, the actual open source projects themselves embody socialist ideals to better all who use it. Would you blame a fork if someone used it to stab you?

This is why they should’ve used a Linux distributions… sure it CAN crash, but more often than not won’t.

Wow, this was poorly written. I’m sorry about that! I’d like to see a show about getting away from big tech and advocating towards using the open source software, such as Linux distributions. Often times the open source software is better. Also, it starts to get that tech money out of our politics!
