the great thing about having a self-hosted music site with zero fees or strings is that i can impulsively upload an album of piano music i impulsively recorded

and you can just listen to it

so i'll probably do that later today

I am so excited about this one: Buffer now has a fully-packed comment management toolset built in 😊

It's called Community!

The whole idea is that building an audience on social isn't just about posting bangers all the time. You need to engage with those folks too.

I may or may not have just impulsively recorded a second album of #piano music

Hey have you heard my latest album yet? It’s called INFINITE NORMAL and tbh it’s pretty timely 😬

If you’re into alternative rock, dry & honest lyricism, and minimalist sprawl, you may dig it.

This is arguably the feature I'm most excited that we're bringing to @buffer.com since I joined the team.

A calm (seriously, it's so... just calm) way of keeping up with your community across social platforms. It's truly going to be wonderful for all types of creators.

Coming next Wednesday 😉

Something I thought would be fun: a diagram illustrating all the connective tissue across my music. So I made one in Figjam. I present to you: The Kid Lightbulbs song map

This does not go entirely into the archives, but shows the recurring references & motifs across my 4 albums.

Thank you everyone who came to my listening party for INFINITE NORMAL yesterday! These are always fun.

As another means to celebrate, I just published a big ol' 3200-word mess called "the INFINITE NORMAL story" on my blog.

I'm doing a li'l listening party on Bandcamp this afternoon (evening if you're further east than me!) for my new album infinite normal!

Come hang out? (and if you do, be sure to show up a couple minutes early, these things always start *right* on time 😬)

I think the thing that bothers me most about the whole "use AI to generate music" thing is that it's not hard at all anymore to express oneself creatively *without* AI

Today I said "screw preorders, YOLO"

INFINITE NORMAL is out!

Listen to the whole thing now, consider a purchase. Pay what you like (minimum asking price $5 because, hey, it's a whole freaking album).

I'll schedule a listening party soon, but for now:

I'm going to open up a preorder for INFINITE NORMAL (kid lightbulbs lp4) probably today or tomorrow. I haven't yet gotten a test pressing of the CD edition and I want to make sure it is all looking good first before I "publish" that. So here's the deal:

I used to worship the time
The time where we could just leave
But now I know that I’m needed
Sometimes I need a release
But I can’t fill up my lungs
And I used to feel so young
And I’m not sure it’s true but I convince myself that I don’t have much time to live

I came across something in Derek Sivers’ bio that stopped me in my tracks – the idea that he does not like live music, and instead much prefers “great recordings.”

Reframing my music release strategy to this:

I don't care much about maximizing reach anymore. I release music for myself, friends, and current & potential followers of my work. I go about finding those potential followers in community spaces where I can be myself and my ideas resonate.

You have to be optimistic. It's really hard right now to be, but you kind of have to. Otherwise you just give into the cynicism that led to this mess in the first place.
October 16, 2025 at 1:43 PM
If I did another Bandcamp listening party for LP4, would you come to it?

The single most prominent influence on the sound of my next album INFINITE NORMAL is probably the work of Ethel Cain

Which is weird to think about because some people consider her an "americana" artist and I very much do not consider myself this
