Alright so “don’t curse skaters by picking them” did similar to “hope for good things with a dash of chaos” in the standings, but it didn’t hurt my heart as much so I might as well do it again. Again this is not ill will towards the skaters I picked, just trying to keep others from meltdown 😭

Mia Kalin is stepping away from figure skating due to emotional manipulation from an adult in her life. Heartbreaking, but not terribly surprising. I wish her all the best and that she finds peace in rediscovering herself.
An instagram post from Mia Kalin that states: Hey guys, I just wanted to make a quick post about this. :) Trust, this isn't supposed to be a heavy post, but I am going to be completely honest. From around age 10 to 16, I felt like I was living in a different body, a different mind-one that didn't belong to me, but to someone else. It messed me up quite a bit. I felt like I was completely trapped and couldn't leave the situation for the longest time because I was made to believe there would be harmful consequences for the other person. It almost scares me, because it feels like I lost a chunk of my childhood. There's a difference between making sacrifices for something you're dedicated to and giving too much of yourself away because you were made to believe that was the only way to succeed, which is false and damaging. I had to grow up fast and learn to be responsible for an adult's emotions. I became very good at masking and suppressing my own, which often made me feel numb. Once I was finally able to remove myself from the situation toward the end of last year, I realized I had to do a lot of rewiring in my mind, which takes a lot of energy and time. I've been dealing with a lot, so my team and I agreed it would be best for me to step away from the sport. I'm very grateful to everyone who has supported me and helped me get to where I am, but I would especially like to thank Massimo and Phillip, who were so supportive and kind toward me and my situation. This journey has been far from easy, but it has taught me so, so much.

Pairs short competitions always lull me into thinking everyone is at the top of their game and pairs skating is on the rise. The free is of course now set up to be an absolute bloodbath. #4ContsFigure
