We are an independent museum in Bexhill, East Sussex. Our collections include natural history, clothing and transport. Our opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 11-4.

This is a closer up shot of one area of the shop. There are books on various aspects of fashion history, local history, transport history, Spike Milligan books, wrapping paper, bird and butterfly identification cards, local magnets and much more. This close up shows the souvenir packs commemorating topics such as the RAF, gardening, Titanic, motoring, holidays and lots more. They contain multiple souvenir replicas. This close up shows the book Death & The Seagull. It is a really good book, a comedy crime caper, set in Bexhill and one part even takes place within the museum itself. I’ve read it and I truly recommend it.

Wartime postcard showing a hospital suit. This was what injured men wore during their recuperation, when they were well enough to get out of bed. These postcards were sold in aid of the Red Cross.

The hospital suit was blue and the soldier pictured is wearing it but has one arm in a sling. He has a red tie and an army hat. He is also smoking a pipe.

We have this world record breaking car in our collection. It was built by the pupils of St Richard’s College and achieved the world record at Greenham Common on 25th September 1993.

The photograph shows the long very low-slung vehicle that is white but has many sponsorship decals on it. There is a parachute deployed at the back to slow it down.

This was part of our 2017 exhibition about local artist Nigel Cornford. He was a set designer, animator, puppeteer, special effects and puppet costumer expert and worked on many tv and film productions including Tim Burton films Frankenweenie and The Corpse Bride.
