OTD in 1974: – Ens. Jane Skiles (O’Dea), earns Wings of Gold. She will become the 1st woman to fly the C-130 Hercules, America's 1st military pilot mom, the Navy’s 1st female flight instructor, and one of the 1st female naval aviators to become a captain and command a squadron. #wingsofgoldbook

Recent pushback to women in combat is the same old argument used against the WASP and other servicewomen after World War II; the first women in U.S. military flight training in the '70s; and the women seeking combat status for duty they were already performing in the '90s.
