You're wrong, largely by virtue of having to get through the Gower to reach it, which is a car park for 6 months of the year. The best beach is Rest Bay.

Honorable mention in creative non-fiction for In Cold Blood, Truman Capote. I re-read this every year and marvel at just how well it is written, and at the idea of inventing a literary genre. Every year I change my mind about whether or not Capote was irresponsible in befriending Perry.

My best book of the year - and I know you're all holding your breaths - was The Other Valley by Scott Alexander Howard. Time travel, fate, despair, hope...what more could you want? Really stuck with me.

Every day I spend a little time checking (from my sofa-based Wiltshire panoptican) that everything is in order on the Venice Beach boardwalk. The people with the sea moss stall have given up - I'm not suprised, they didn't have a customer in 8 months. I also have a favoutite water hole in Namibia.
