Michelle Nakai is one of my favorite models. I have painted her several times. She is originally from Crownpoint, NM. For years, she was a catalog model, posing only in Native designs. At first, she was embarrassed to pose nude, but she soon got used to to it, just as I had done years before.

Madeleine Whitecrow Ashe (AKA MW Ashe), shown here at a trading post, is the author of four historical novels about the American West. Her books are quite engaging, imminently readable, and historically accurate to the smallest detail.
