My smartphone #astrophotography presentation recording is up. The entire meeting is recorded, but mine starts at this link: youtu.be/7RJhz5C67hU?...

The presentations before mine are from 4th yr students, and after is a young member of my #RASC chapter who had an adventurous summer of science!

Today I turn 50. I'm holding up ok I guess. This is the first birthday I've had any weird feelings, mortality-wise, but it's still pretty cool. You can't get rid of me that easily 😂

I haven't done smartphone astro in a bit because I got an astrocam recently. However, I'm doing a smartphone #astrophotography talk on Friday. Toronto area folks, join us! It's free/open to the public (w/ paid parking). Here's the info: mississauga.rasc.ca/event/potpou... Attached are my own images.

Here's another. The double star cluster in Perseus, known as Caldwell 14 or NGCs 869 and 884. #astrophotography #astronomy #starCluster

I will never understand Reddit. Who downvotes a request for bookkeeping recommendations? And yes, I looked at older posts to see if it had already been asked and answered. Fuckin' Reddit, man 🤣

Behold: Comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon. This is one of my favourite things I've worked on so far. #astrophotography #cometLemmon #comet

I'm in Mexico for work. Here's a picture of a lil rainbow in the clouds over the Gulf of Mexico.

Just realized I forgot to share this, NGC 2793, the Helix Nebula (a.k.a. Eye of God, for obvious reasons!) this is about 90 minutes of exposure time, and it looks great, though I want to do more to bring out the faint part at the lower right. Enjoy this beauty!

My first comet photo! This is C/2025 R2 SWAN which is fading, but it's up a bit later after sunset so it's been an easier target.

There's a much brighter comet in the mornings but I'm trying it later this month. (It's called C/2025 A6 Lemmon if interested.)

@cnn.com what do you think boycotts do? They add pressure by causing discomfort. It's doing its job.

I'm a lot more worried about people who need to fear for their lives because of Trump administration policy than I am about business owners who probably voted for this anyway.

Grow a backbone.

I spent some time on the moon tonight. I increased the saturation to enhance our ability to see the different minerals on the moon that we can't really see. 115 frames taken with the Vizta, PIPP, Autostakkert, then further processed in Siril and GIMP.) #astrophotography #harvestMoon #fullMoon

Someone sent me a tutorial on a better processing technique while using the filter I mentioned in the previous post, and it came out so nice! I love both this and the previous version but I thought this was different enough to share. #astrophotography #ngc7000 #CygnusWall

Happy to share my best picture yet! This is part of the North America Nebula #NGC7000, called #CygnusWall. I was able to do this even from my light-polluted home because I have a filter that allows only certain wavelengths of light. I will continue to add more time to this. #astrophotography

More sky things. Read the captions if you'd like more info. #astrophotography

The larger bright spot is the galaxy core. The one with the arrow is the #supernova. Last month, it was as bright as the galaxy core! This is part of a group called NGC 7331/Deer Lick group. I have also included a wider view. There are a ton of small, faint galaxies in that shot. #astrophotography

Tendon release surgery tomorrow. Anxious about not being able to use my hand for a while, but the surgery itself is minor and routine, and I'm not worried about it. Just the recovery. Thanks to my MIL for taking me to the hospital at an ungodly hour in the morning! Moon pic for attention 💜

It's the astrophotography. I'm busy at night a lot more. Here's my first pic with the new camera in fact lol

Also some sunspot images from today. The yellow one is from my Thousand Oaks Optical filter which shows nice, sharp sunspots and penumbra.

The white one is the one with the Vizta, which I like for solar #astrophotography because its filter that shows a teeny bit of the solar granules.

Some of my latest #astrophotography efforts. Other than the Milky Way, all were taken with my SVBony 80mm doublet refractor and a 15mm Celestron ultra flat field eyepiece. All images were captured with my Pixel 9 Pro camera.

I had to buy a vacuum cleaner today, and while in the aisle, I noticed in the wet vac area that there is a packaging design genre of "guilty dog".

Bluesky only allows four images, but I assure you there were far more than four.

PSA - if your pets are microchipped and you move, you should update your address with the microchip company! I just did it and I'd nearly forgotten, so I thought I'd share :)

My latest image: 30 minutes of the Dumbbell Nebula (M 27).

(Pixel 9 Pro as camera, SVBony 80mm doublet refractor, 24mm Celestron eyepiece)
