Not sure what social price we're talking about. GenX here, got hitched in 2002, never changed my name, kids have my name, with dad's name as middle name. I live in NYC. What social price am I paying without realizing? Country club memberships denied?

Absolutely not, in the case of my 120lb highly neurotic mutt. He has no furniture privileges but a very large dog bed all to himself. The reason is he benefits from consistent boundaries and seems to get overstimulated with too much physical contact.

Naturalized immigrant from Germany here. My spouse is Jewish-American. Living in Europe was never a serious consideration for us except in retirement; now it seems the better option. Under the current circumstances, my answer to both of your questions is no.

Child-rearing is a marathon, not a sprint. Do what works for you. In 10 years, nobody will be able to tell if your child was breastfed or not.

I would much rather let my 16-year-old offspring spend the day cruising the NYC subway than driving a car anywhere.

Lots of van-camping happening around Grant's Tomb in Upper Manhattan--I see converted school buses and shuttle vans there all the time, year-round. Once I got yelled at by an urban camper for looking in his direction--he seemed to think this should be like the Adirondack wilderness, not NYC.

George was one of my most influential teachers in graduate school. He stood out in all the best ways--intellectually fearless, unfailingly generous, and refreshingly irreverent. Where others gatekeep, he tore down barriers for his students and made sure we had access to people and opportunities.

Great screening and discussion! To my surprise, the skill-building around mushing and arctic survival were portrayed more as a means than an end--the end really being personal development and self-discovery. My 15yo kid backed out last minute but will def see it when it releases in theaters in July.
