I’m the author of historical fiction, time travel novels and short stories about everything under the sun. I’ve worked as a writer, public school teacher, teachers’ union steward, Harvard-trained lawyer, and political analyst.
Usually I just throw on whatever. I’m a writer who works from home and doesn’t need to worry about being fashionable. But tonight I picked out a shirt to wear PROUDLY tomorrow. (I’m HLS Class of 1985.)

The drawing is from today’s local paper.

Somewhere, out of sight of the cameras, a parent is holding a child who will die of hunger. Needlessly. Because Trump and Musk wanted to put on a show and assert their power. But it’s not a show for that child or the parent who must bury the child.

With the Trump-Musk cuts to USAID in the news, this old Dr. Seuss cartoon came to mind.

How do you find a moment of cheer in hard times? I grow things.

So, do I have this right?

The lose money for vets, fall down drunk, and assault women guy is head of DOD.

The shoot your puppy lady is head of Homeland Security.

And the polio vaccine causes cancer guy is up for HHS.

Are we in the Golden Age yet?

Hitler was Time’s 1938 Man of the Year. The cover caption read “From the unholy organist, a hymn of hate.” The art was by the Austrian-born surrealist Rudolph von Ripper who had been in a concentration camp before being released. I wonder what artists might have produced for this year’s selection.

My grandmother’s photo album gives a glimpse of a pre-vaccine America. The photo shows her with one of her stepsons, taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s.

Books make great gifts. Here are mine:

The Better Angels and Fear Itself are historical mystery, time travel adventures. The time travelers are all seniors.

Neighbors and The Second Chance Shop include tales about everything under the sun.

Print, Kindle, and Audiobook versions are on Amazon.
