Brier is a big and toxic enough enclave that it should probably be chopped up and amalgamated into different cities

as a country the US has been a mixed bag at naming things but likely an overall “D” grade. there was that old @theonion.com story about Clinton sending emergency vowels to Bosnia, there should be another one about someone (council of First Nations? Fantasy World builders?) sending better place names

Seattle is midway between two cities named Vancouver, and that is far from the worst toponym sin in that region. people naming the things seemed to actively hate them (Useless Bay, Cape Disappointment). The Big Mountain is named after an enemy admiral when ”Tahoma” was right there.

This country and names, man. Two Washingtons and Portlands on opposite coasts, two kinds of New York, a name so generic the demonym reverts to its continent.

this ratioed post and its many replies make me appreciate the 19th Century and its many inventions more. Good thing we didn’t throw them out when inventing or improving even more stuff!

that said, I’d really like the 20th century technology of bullet trains too.

even with sprawl being the cheapest subsidized thing to quickly build, there are a huge range of options between “small urban apartment“ and “exurban McMansion”, and prices in more walkable areas sure seem to suggest that more people want this - especially on a unit basis
