Seattle is midway between two cities named Vancouver, and that is far from the worst toponym sin in that region. people naming the things seemed to actively hate them (Useless Bay, Cape Disappointment). The Big Mountain is named after an enemy admiral when ”Tahoma” was right there.

This country and names, man. Two Washingtons and Portlands on opposite coasts, two kinds of New York, a name so generic the demonym reverts to its continent.
