And what of the company? Do their recent actions demonstrate loyalty, support and respect for their employees? Was this done to improve the quality of their games?

Unionizing a game studio is no small feat, it takes a lot of work from a lot of people. And as these events show, this work comes with risk. The fact that these folk volunteered to take this on speaks volumes about their dedication to their colleagues and to their games.

OneBGS will do everything we can to support our friends in these negotiations. ✊

We want to ensure they are well taken care of because we know that next time we might not be so lucky as we were this time.

The email announcing these layoffs assured that severance would be “aligned with local laws.” It’s some consolation that our friends at QA & ZOS were, like us, unionized and will therefore be getting much more than the bare legal minimum laid off employees usually get. ⚖️

Negotiations are ongoing.

QA layoffs hurt all of us because QA is critical for shipping our games at the level of quality our players deserve.

The cancellation of ZOS’s promising “Blackbird” project tells us that no project is safe from sudden cancellation. 😔
