Okay #asecs2025, who is ready for some #18thC cat meme action? I'm talking about cats I found looking at a selection of Lewis Walpole Library imagetexts THIS SATURDAY during the last session slot. It's going to be mega serious. But you should still come.

Reading Aphra Behn's The Fair Jilt (1688) and decided that it's worth a thread for your #restoration #c18th literary amusement. Let's do this

While reading _The Wager_ by David Grann ran into @emilybrand.bsky.social in the citations about the Byron family. I had no idea poet Lord Byron was the grandson of a guy who was shipwrecked and part of a mutiny off of Cape Horn in the 1740s. #c18th history is so fun and wild

Prepping to discuss Threadbare by @anneelizabethmoore.bsky.social and the Ladydrawers tomorrow with my #c18th sex work class. I love teaching graphic narratives, plus this one is just full of FACTS about women's labor, sex work, trafficking, and fast fashion. I cannot wait for students' reactions

I knit this blanket with my own two hands (Purl Soho library blanket pattern). Finished it months ago but just recently blocked.

Pulling together a project proposal about #18thc periodicals and so pleased to find this book by @jessmaddox.bsky.social. It is about cats on the internet, not periodicals, but read it immediately anyway. The discussion of "visual culture" as not just pictures is GREAT 😻

#18thc topics class #shelfie! Not pictured are our readings from 1990s to today, but they're on the syllabus.

Having such a good time teaching #sexwork #sexhist as way into 1700s print culture; my students are 🔥 so far. Thanks @broadviewpress.bsky.social for the great editions!

Getting to hang out with a bunch of type nerds and designers, mostly thinking about non-Latin scripts, at #faceinterface2023 this weekend was a real blast. I learned cool stuff like the design process for Mayan hieroglyphs and how wood type breakage in the past impacts Hebrew typography today 📜🗃️

Ah, the feeling of waking up to a new job posting only to realize you couldn't move there because your family wouldn't have equal protection under the law. Yet you and that job are both in the same country, the self-proclaimed "land of the free."

Me: Prepping to teach 3 classes at once on the quarter system while applying to a major fellowship and one of the few jobs in your field and everything is basically due in the same 48 hour period? Exhausting.

Cats: Oh, don't even start with us about exhaustion. Have you seen what WE do all day?

I carry the library of my dreams with me always.

Decided to take the plunge if I got accepted into PhD school... and the inking began that 1st year. The tattoo was finished long before my dissertation, but I'm still not 100% sure which was harder.

Hey @janmachielsen.bsky.social you can pin a post on feed you've made like Gardening feed has done for new users. It's an option via the blueskyfeeds.com interface, just fyi

I think it was how AP put out the story, though now on their own website the headline "Rubiales resigns as Spain’s soccer president 3 weeks after kissing player at Women’s World Cup final"

But a quick Google shows the same "kiss scandal" language across media sources rerunning the story ugh.

Only if you carried rubber ducks, a saxophone, and/or hung out with this guy all the time. Go for it!

I was going to look up in OED for you, but my access is stymied... but greensdictofslang.com/search/advan... does have a meaning search function, which might bring you more joy? There are some possibilities here at least to explore.
