Sunny. In high spirits. Stockholm Pride.
And it suddenly hits me that neurodivergence in the workplace is somewhere like where LGB* rights were in the mid 80’s, when I first entered the workforce.
*TQIA+ weren’t even recognised back then😦…

It’s 2.35 am & I’m listening to Barbara Streisand. Not a fan, just ended up adding her “best of”s to my Shirley Bassey playlist (my parents were big fans).
Quite content for the time being…

Rather windy but made an effort to get outside on the balcony with coffee. Been feeling a bit low after being ill & decided to paint my nails. Well, nine of them🤭.
I missed one - as I did my meds this afternoon☺️.

Ah - I must’ve thought that last night too🤔. And the night before - which is when I first bought them.
I don’t have a ticking clock to fall asleep to in here so I’ll just listen to the bubbles popping instead☺️

Flying with ADHD: trying to explain to others that you’ll be perfectly fine but need your teddies in your lap to cope with the obligatory wailing infant whose crying feels like nails scratching a blackboard.

Going on a trip with ADHD: fancying one of the sandwiches you’re so proud of remembering to fix and discovering that you’ve packed three half-dead bananas instead…

Packing for a trip with ADHD: feeling relieved that everything is finally in place 10 minutes before leaving the house, but then wondering where the suitcase to put them in has disappeared to…

Two playground bullies telling the “dumb” outsider they should be thankful that they let the kid play with them, while simultaneously forcing them to concede that they
a) are the problem
b) shld be grateful that they’re being acknowledged
I’m enraged. And quite frankly disgusted.

I’m so sick of seeing the same ads for games I’m not in the slightest bit interested in again & again that I often forego bonus points & such just to avoid wasting time. The rhetorical question I keep pondering upon is whether ppl are more likely to download these too after being bombarded with ads?
February 10, 2025 at 12:46 PM
So to finally get round to saying what was initially on my mind, there are loads of ads for other games as you go along, though one game doesn’t generally have ads &, after paying a small one-off fee, you only need to watch them to gather extra rewards (instead of being disturbed every 1-2 mins).

But, as I started off by saying, I took it up again in 2023, albeit on a mobile device.
I’ve gone backwards & forwards a couple of times but my favourites are matching cakes & matching 3 objects respectively. Pretty simple, but I find them really relaxing.

Needless to say, my brain had equated the planes with birds that I needed to shoot down from the sky.
It was genuinely quite scary to think that I’d equated a real life situation to an animation - & I vowed after that not to play computer games any longer.

One night I was walking home &, thanks to the lack of light pollution, the sky was lit by what felt like a million stars. It was also possible to see a number of planes converging into the corridor for landing at Arlanda International. And my finger started to twitch.

Then there was a gap until around 2000 when literally everyone employed w/i criminal care had a 90 second beta version of a game where you shot birds (& avoided mountains if I recall) which is an ideal length if you’re likely to get disturbed at any moment.

I was given a TI console for my 14th birthday, way back in 1982, & despite it disappearing into my brother’s bedroom after a couple of months (he now works for a major software company that don’t produce OS’s), I did get to play games & learn some basic before it got legs.
February 10, 2025 at 12:20 PM
But I do now use them for what I term “professional mind wandering”: in order to find a solution to a situation where you’ve hit a wall, it allows your brain to effectively keep it ticking over in the background while you get on with something else.

I only started playing when my Dad, bless his soul, was severely ill in hospital & it helped to give me a distraction while sat at his bedside watching him sleep.

I don’t generally play games on my phone (& nvr on iPad/MacBook) bc I can get too involved in them (more abt that later), but there are two specific ones that I’m kinda addicted to…

Watching a particularly novel film by David Lynch, RIP together with my brother. I commented on the the shadows cast on the wall behind the rabbits to which he replied “they’re eerie”😂
