I may have an eBay alert set for whenever there’s a refreshable Braille display that’s less than a bajillion dollars. One of those things I’d love to get more experience with

I didn’t think about this guy for years but as soon as he was appointed I started irrationally hating him again just like I did back then

I met him in college when he ran for student gov president. He ran on “I’m a small business owner and I’ll run student gov like a business.”

His business? An aerial photography company. His dad bought him a helicopter and rich family friends paid him to take pictures.

Hot but impossible to prove take: Trump would have won by more in 2024 if he hadn't run all the anti-trans ads. I sincerely believe they cost him votes, and all the pundits got it exactly wrong.

Yes, people care about feeding their kids more than they care about the symbolism of tearing down the East Wing. Sure.

But people LOVE to have "can you believe what this guy is doing?!?" conversations - and much easier to talk about with friends/coworkers than being vulnerable about money stuff.

“First Time, Long Time” by Amy Silverberg

“Apsara Engine” by Bishakh Som

My high school health teacher explained to the class that AIDS was ”caused by sodomy.”

I know this is a Big Lebowski reference but also at minimum she should get a good Eiger Sanction-type experience out of her trip

I desperately want to see journalists engage with these questions when they write about this.

I want to see less prose about manifest destiny and more questions about whether we’re going to force Canada to stop using the metric system and how that will disrupt the Canadian economy.

And it would become clear that the Bush administration really didn’t have a plan.

Adding territory to our country, adding states, and integrating foreign institutions into our own structures of government is even more complicated than what we did in those countries!

So far, the incoming administration has shown zero evidence that they’re thinking about these questions.

When the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, very few journalists (like, maybe just James Fallows?) were asking: what comes next?

I could go on, and on, and on. I’m sure others can come up with more questions too!

The point here is that “annex Canada” and “buy Greenland” and “use military force against our allies” aren’t simple things. There are a lot of difficult and interesting policy questions generated by these ideas.
