This is exactly why the overwhelming majority of participants wanted their mother tongue to have status/be the language of education.

There is a famous proverb: “Necessity is the mother of discovery”. In today’s conditions, it is not the Turkish ministry that needs Mother Language Day, but the Kurds. Because they are the ones whose language is melting away and whose culture is forgotten every day.

Mother Language Day, is seen by UNESCO as a milestone for the protection of the mother tongue and cultural heritage and the development of education. However, the Ministry of National Education in Turkey still avoids giving Mother Language Day among the special days and weeks celebrated in schools.
