Utrecht. The Oldest Shopping Street. The Twijnstraat has been a shopping street for a thousand years. In the past, farmers from the area sold their products outside the Tolsteeg City Gate, so that they did not have to pay import duties. Then they did their own shopping in the Twijnstraat.

Utrecht. On June 1, 1933, J. Heidendahl started Houthandel Utrecht on Amsterdamsestraatweg. In 1967, 58 franchise stores were started under the name Hubo, an abbreviation of Houthandel Utrecht Bedrijven Organisatie. It was the first hardware store chain in the Netherlands.
