The refuge/mmigration system here is trash. When people say “We just want them to come in the right way.” It’s selfish ignorance. We pretend to be the world’s warm blanket but really we just suffocate and burry. Somalia, Afghanistan, Venezuela, etc I’m so so sorry. We are not what we claim to be.
3 year anniversary march of the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine. We marched from the Wrigley building to The Water Tower in downtown Chicago. It was incredibly moving, heartbreaking and powerful. This sign reads “No talks about Ukraine without Ukraine”.

Ukraine: I’m a farmer in my forties living in the Mid-West. High School education. My Italian Family Immigrated here after WWII, and My German side sometime in the late 1800’s. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why we would not fully support each and every request Ukraine has made of us. Biden did not do nearly enough. Much like his debate performance, I found his actions slow and weak. I thought maybe when Trump took over that America would slap that bully Putin right in the mouth and immediately give Ukraine what they need to win. Not help force them into submission. There is NOTHING American about bowing down to a bully, and Russia is exactly that. Every lesson I was ever taught in school told me so. What the hell changed? Do we really think there are rampant Nazis in Ukraine? Do we really think Ukraine is a threat to anyone OTHER than Russia? Give me a break! Russia is still run by a dictator and is still very much out to destroy the America we know. They say this openly and often. Not inviting Ukraine into the room where its future is being decided makes zero sense to me. Putting myself into the shoes of Ukraine, I can’t think of a more insulting and ridiculous decision by the current administration. Russia invaded Ukraine. They do this every decade or so. To give them an inch of territory will grant a victory to Putin. A man who rigs his own elections, has his political opponents murdered, and has said from the beginning that his goals are to restore the Soviet Union “to its former glory”. The same Soviet Union we have been trying to dismantle since the end of WWII. What am I missing here? If someone said to me, “How would you like to wage war against your sworn enemy without ever having to put a single American soldier in harm’s way? You can cripple both the war machine and the economy of a ruthless dictatorship, with the flick of a pen?” If someone said that me my response would be, “Sign me the hell up!” Who in their rig…

At 16 or 17 this book meant the absolute world to me. I know it did for a lot of people. I can’t fathom why, but apparently it’s one of the top fifteen books with bans and/or attempted bans. It’s getting real Third Reich-y around here.
