Remembering the wreck of the USS Pollux and Truxtun, U.S. naval vessels from WW2 that were wrecked off Newfoundland in 1942. The people of St. Lawrence risked their lives to rescue survivors. 186 sailors survived; 203 sailors lost their lives. I visited the memorial at Chamber Cove this past summer.

In a complicated world, as we get set to enter the season of snow and cold temperatures, I’m making jam. Comfort food.

When the Blue Jays game goes so late that people send thoughts and prayers to Newfoundland where it's even later than it is for them... 😄

Still lots to do in Gros Morne National Park, but NOT backcountry hiking or camping. That includes hiking to the summit of Gros Morne Mountain. The closure is due to limited availability of emergency resources due to the wildfire situation in NL. Details here: parks.canada.ca/pn-np/nl/gro...

From my recent travels: On the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland, you’ll find the Marystown Model Ship Gallery. A remarkable collection of model boats of every kind, as well as all sorts of nautical memorabilia. #nltourism

Incredibly troubling to see the range and impact of wildfire activity across Western Canada, in particular. #cdnpoli #wildfires www.cbc.ca/newsinteract...

From my travels this summer: Off the beaten path, and well worth seeing, is the Canadian Glove Museum in Point Leamington, Newfoundland & Labrador. They’ve been manufacturing many varieties of gloves here since 1989. We had a tour of the museum and factory. #nltourism

“We stand on guard for thee.” So thankful for this place I call home. My settler ancestors came to the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland in the early 1800s. I gratefully acknowledge that my home in Elmastukwek is on the traditional territory of the Mi’kmaw and other Indigenous peoples.

Today is #MemorialDay in #Newfoundland and Labrador, in addition to being Canada Day. We remember the soldiers who died or were injured at Beaumont-Hamel on this day in 1916. “Its assault only failed of success because dead men can advance no further." www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/b...

Same location, a year apart. The MSC Baltic III ran aground in mid-Feb. 2025 in Cedar Cove, which is in Newfoundland, and on the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The Baltic III was carrying 1,600,000 litres of fuel. Fuel is slowly but surely being removed in a painstaking salvage operation. #WorldOceanDay

TruEarth has unscented laundry detergent strips. The ones I bought are “fresh linen.”

Wintry morning in Corner Brook, #Newfoundland and Labrador, on Monday, May 12th, 2025. I pulled over a few times on my drive to work, to snap some photos to give you an idea of what driving is like this morning in the city. Keep in mind that this was from around 5:30 a.m. #nltraffic
