These sea cucumbers have the ability to change the consistency of their connective tissue and can become very rigid or very soft.

They can enter a HAIL MARY type of survival mode by expelling their innards. It’s called evisceration.

Next #invert up is Melibe leonina, my favorite nudibranch (profile photo). Here’s a sketch I did and a couple photos I took of one I caught in the San Juans.

This is a predatory nudibranch that feeds on planktonic inverts by capturing them in its big oral hood.
