Signs we’ve lost: this magnificent piece of cursive neon was photographed in the very first weeks of the Berlin Typography project … and had already disappeared by the time I went back to get better photos (ca. 2017).

Signs we’ve lost: there was a time when even a humble estate agent in a far-flung residential neighbourhood could have an ostentatious neon sign. Those days, alas, are over.

Signs we’ve lost: this neon Elektro sign disappeared after the Ladenstraße in Onkel Toms Hütte caught fire.

Signs we’ve lost: the sign vanished around 2017/18 – there hadn’t been a flower shop there for some time – and now the whole building has been redone, its hints of post-war modern erased.

Signs we’ve lost: there was no longer a Friseur beneath this sign in 2017. By 2019 the sign had vanished as well.
