Do we know that it was truly voluntary? That’s what always comes to mind when you quit that late in a program… especially that competitive of a specialty.

All the time. I also felt like watching my kids eat that both of them would have ended up with g tubes had they been inpatient.

I don’t know if it’s formal policy but we get them on admit if hyperbili (exchange prep), cardiac kids, other surgical kids, or delivery situation that’s suggestive of significant blood loss. If I’m type & screening, I discuss possibility of transfusion or get consent.

I had one of my adult ICU colleagues tell me I was “wasting my brain” when I was applying to NPM fellowship. 🤷‍♀️ Somehow people assume we just cuddle babies all day and coo over stripey jammies. (Fair disclosure: I did have a feeder grower in jeans on rounds the other day and I squealed with delight)
