Do not allocate or spend these funds until clear success metrics have been defined. Avoid reinventing the wheel; prioritize replicating programs that have already demonstrated strong outcomes in other cities.

Stop predatory 100% penalties all together. There is no justification for this obnoxious practice.

Stop predatory 100% penalties.

Even with those bills, California remains the most over-regulated states in the country for construction with the highest fees, the longest approval timelines, and the highest costs to build housing.
September 14, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Charging 100% penalties is unjust and predatory under any circumstances—especially for a rent board funded by the public. Even the most aggressive payday lenders don’t impose such penalties. This is an unconscionable practice that must stop.

California keeps pretending “affordable housing mandates” solve the crisis. They don’t. The only thing that works is supply and demand. We need to cut red tape, end local obstruction, and actually let developers build.

Stop predatory 100% penalties. Lower the nation’s highest fees and end the waste of public funds now.
September 13, 2025 at 7:46 PM
So much nonsense.

Berkeley needs to fix the Permit Center, lower development fees, and incentivize developers. That’s how we make housing available and affordable for all.

Stop the predatory 100% penalties. Cut your nation-high Rent Board fees and end the waste of public funds.
September 11, 2025 at 6:04 PM
Over-regulation has made construction in Berkeley nearly impossible. The local economy is collapsing under the weight of excessive rules and a ridiculous city council.
September 11, 2025 at 2:13 AM
Stop picking fights with the federal government. Stop the performative nonsense. Focus on fixing this broken city and its ridiculous council — or resign.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous governing bodies anywhere. The city is running a deficit, streets are riddled with potholes, and downtown is falling apart—yet our councilors spend their time grandstanding on international politics and picking fights with the federal government.

Stop predatory 100% penalties.
September 10, 2025 at 11:54 PM
This has to be a joke. Our streets are filthy, downtown reeks of neglect, and small businesses are shutting down every month.
September 10, 2025 at 11:41 PM
This has to be a joke. Are you not ashamed of the state of this city? Our streets are filthy, downtown reeks of neglect, and small businesses are shutting down every month.
September 10, 2025 at 11:40 PM
You’ve destroyed small businesses, and more are shutting down every month.
September 10, 2025 at 11:38 PM
Our local government is an abysmal failure. You can’t even keep the streets clean. @berkeleyca.gov Downtown reeks of neglect.
September 10, 2025 at 11:37 PM
You have failed this city, just like your predecessors. Berkeley is dirtier, smellier, and losing more stores by the month. Your pseudo-progressive, performative politics are destroying this city. Do the right thing—resign.
September 8, 2025 at 10:54 PM
Fix this broken city. Berkeley’s economy is collapsing under the weight of decades of incompetence.
September 8, 2025 at 10:50 PM
Downtown Berkeley reeks of neglect. Shame on City Council.

While every other downtown in the Bay is finding its footing again, Berkeley is falling further behind—dirtier, smellier, and with more stores closing each month. Our nonsensical progressive politics simply aren’t working.

2/2 The permit center is a choke point, the Rent Board is bloated and dysfunctional, and basic governance has collapsed.
