Yes, it's just important to be informed about where your preferences will go eventually. That lets you send a message to major parties whilst also still 'voting' for the party or coalition you believe will do a better job running.

At least with preferential voting i can put the people i most want to win first (with mindfulness of where my preferences flow) and LNP and their ilk last.
