wip wednesday 😬 childhood friends to lovers vmin
On moving day Jimin got up early. He was in a bad mood and not speaking to his mother. He knew he was being unfair to her but he couldn't help it; he loved his house and the school he attended was alright. He didn't want to start over in a new school; it was very difficult for him to make friends and city kids terrified him for some reason. When he entered his new house his stomach was a knot. “You can pick your bedroom,” his mom told him. “How many bedrooms are there?” Jimin asked, trying to sound uninterested. “Three,” his mom said. “The beds are brand new, and they're big ones.” She nudged him softly. “You've always wanted a double sized bed.” Jimin felt like crying. He wanted to be nice to his mom again but he couldn't. She began a thorough search to check if anything had been lost or damaged in the move. Jimin walked upstairs hurriedly so his mom wouldn't see his tears. He picked a bedroom randomly and lay down on the bed. Shortly after he heard voices of boys reaching him through the window. The voices would stop, then there would be a loud noise of a ball bouncing off a door, and then the voices would start again. Jimin jumped out of bed and looked out onto the balcony. The boys were about his age. One was wearing a fiery red t-shirt, and the other a white shirt, unbuttoned. Red t-shirt was taller and had an insolent voice, look and gestures. His smile was charming, and he was very attractive. Jimin felt his cheeks warm at the sight. The boy was the kind that girls would go mad over in school. The other was a little shorter, and upon a closer look Jimin determined he was probably younger by a few years. His hair was dark and his eyes very big, his teeth resembling a rodent. He was very agile. The handsome one was playing goalkeeper in a garage; the other was shooting at him with a brand new football. “Try to catch this one, you ass!” he said. His opponent crouched with a dramatic grimace, he wiped his forehead and nose with both hands, and pretended to throw himself. After saving the penalty he laughed loudly and mockingly. “You throw like a girl!” “Fuck you!” the other yelled, and it was so loud that Jimin was startled. Just then a woman walked out of the house. “Jungkook! What did I tell you about cursing?!” she scolded. Jimin was very invested, and excited about learning one of the names. “All the neighbors can hear you when you yell like that,” the woman hissed. “Taehyung told me I throw like a girl!” Jungkook said, almost crying. Jimin felt something odd in his gut after learning the other boy’s name. “Taehyung,” he mouthed to himself and felt a rush of excitement in his entire body. “That's not a reason to curse like that,” the woman said, and then turned to Taehyung. “And that's not a nice thing to say,” she told him, but she didn't seem mad at him. “Your mom is expecting a baby and it might as well be a little girl. You can't use those things as insults because it's not nice.” “I know,” Taehyung said, laughing a little but clearly feeling remorse. “My mom told me the same. It's just that we always say that at school when we play.” “You have to set an example then,” the woman said, looking like Taehyung’s charming attitude did its work on her. She smiled at him, shaking her head. “You know kids do as you do in school. They look up to you. Be nice so they will all be nice too.” “Alright,” Taehyung said, grinning. “I'm sorry.” The woman turned to Jungkook. “One more bad word and I won't let you play outside for a week.” Jungkook looked down and waited for his mom to go back inside. As soon as she was out of sight he started showing Taehyung his middle finger. Taehyung was very amused and tried not to laugh loudly. Jungkook started to laugh as well, and soon enough they were back playing together. Jimin kept watching them, and he didn't try to hide, which was odd since he was extremely shy. After a while the boys were aware of him watching them. At first, Jimin looked at them coldly, he tried to act tough. He wanted them to think he was cool. They pretended not to notice him for a while. Jimin insisted. He really wanted them to pay attention to him. When Jungkook scored a goal or Taehyung saved the ball, Jimin nodded without smiling, as if he knew about football. Eventually the boys started to give signs of recognizing his presence: they turned their heads toward him, as if making him the arbiter. Soon a close complicity of smiles and nods was established, and Jimin was content. He wanted to run downstairs and tell him mom about it but he remembered he's supposed to bead at her. He felt very stupid. Abruptly Taehyung blocked a shot from Jungkook with his foot and the ball flew into the distance. Jungkook ran after it and Taehyung looked up at Jungkook. “Hi,” he said. “Hello,” said Jimin, feeling his face warm.

I wanted to forget about the hell that high school was for me but…” “What?” Yoongi looked away. “Then my leg…” He shrugged evasively. “So, yeah, it all got worse.” “Tell me about it,” Jungkook said softly. “About your leg, about how it happened.” Yoongi hated being asked about that, but for some reason he felt compelled to tell Jungkook everything. Their conversations seemed to be surrounded by such earnestness that it was impossible for Yoongi to keep his private life to himself. “It was my second year of college,” he said, still looking away. “My brother and I got into a car accident. I lost my leg and he died.” Jungkook was quiet but Yoongi sensed his gaze on him. “It was my fault,” Yoongi went on. “You were driving?” “No,” Yoongi said, shaking his head a little. He looked at Jungkook and met his big, attentive eyes. “But it was my fault.” Jungkook frowned. “How so?” “I went to my morning class and as soon as I got there I started to feel unwell. I was having a panic attack or something. So, I called my brother and asked him to pick me up.” Yoongi paused for a long time but Jungkook didn't say anything. He was quietly waiting for Yoongi to continue, to find his voice again. “I just… I don't know why I started having those awful panic attacks,” Yoongi went on. “I couldn't handle the environment. I got good grades, but everything else was even worse than high school. Anything to do with interacting with classmates and professors was just so hard for me. I started every day with a wave of anxiety at the thought of interacting with people.” “Were they mean?” Yoongi shook his head. “Not at all. I just couldn't speak with them. Small talk and that, I couldn't. I was… paranoid.” Jungkook hummed softly. “Anyway, my brother agreed to pick me up. He didn't say anything but he was upset. He offered to take me to the hospital but I didn't want to see anyone. He was so angry at me, so disappointed in me. I'm sure he thought I was weak and a loser.” Yoongi cleared his throat, fearing his voice would break. “And that's it. He was driving and he was angry, and I don't remember the rest. I woke up two months later without a leg and he was long buried.”
