I flew Cessna 172s at Ardmore and Tauranga airports when I was training for my private pilot's licence. Apart from the wings being above the fuselage, they're a similar plane to the Piper Archer. Safe travels!

The Guardian is one of the few international news platforms that isn't owned by a billionaire and hasn't bent the knee to Trump. I am still mulling whether to renew my subscription to The Washington Post or double down on my support for The Guardian.

How about California - the world's largest sub-national economy - sends a laundry list to Washington DC before handing over more federal taxes that subsidize backward states like Wyoming and Tennessee which these corn-fed basics represent.

That used to happen to me. Now, I travel with two bags; one for clothes and one for books. Speaking of books, this beauty just arrived on the rural delivery. I am planning a sentimental journey to Manchester later this year to savour the city that shaped my musical tastes as a youth in the 1980s.

Unity Books in Wellington has a bigger offering, and there are some excellent secondhand bookshops (Artybees and Pegasus Books) a short walk away. You can easily spend a day in bookshops, especially if you make the trek to Newtown where there are two more shops with a great range of books.

That looks like a couple of hours of enjoyable browsing in Unity Books. I would happily make space for all of those books on my nightstand.
