Today, California agreed to drop portions of AB 587, which, in addition to requiring public disclosure of Terms of Service, mandates social media companies disclose their policies for moderating hate speech, misinformation, and radicalization. (Notably, it doesn’t require any particular definition.)

Meta’s third-party fact-checking provably reduced belief in falsehoods at astonishing rates. Whether by third party or first party, warning labels/community notes are not a restriction of speech - they’re added speech.

I disagree with Rand Paul on everything he says here, barring one point we agree on: we haven’t yet figured out the design features needed to meet KOSA’s “duty of care” standard. But that shouldn’t be cause to block the bill — instead, it urges it (1/2)

Spending a month on Bluesky has created a whole new model of a fight we need to be having right now. Not liberal vs. conservative or whatever, but respect vs manipulation.
I am tired of being manipulated everywhere I go. That’s why I like it here, I feel like I’m in charge for once.
